# Isolate

The Isolate tool allows you to isolate a character or asset by simply selecting a control. This tool searches for the highest node in the hierarchy and performs the isolate on this node.

You can isolate several characters at once by selecting multiple controls from different characters or assets.

If your characters or assets are within a node, for example, all characters are inside a group called "characters," use the "Down one level" option in the dropdown menu.

### Isolate Bookmarks

The 'Isolate Bookmarks' tool allows you to save groups of isolates so that you can quickly change what you see in a viewport. This tool is ideal when you have multiple characters interacting with multiple elements.\ <br>

To create a bookmark:

* Open the 'Isolate Bookmarks' window by right-clicking on the "Isolate" tool button.
* Select the group of characters or assets you want to add to the bookmark in the Outliner.
* Click "Create" in the "Isolate Bookmarks" window.

All bookmarks appear in the dropdown menu of the "Isolate" button.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://thekeymachine.gitbook.io/base/the-toolbar/animation-tools/isolate.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
